Today (July 9th, 2009) at about 11 o'clock I received my long awaited Xtreamer media player in an orange/white TNT bag. Having ordered on June 25th, 2009 I was lucky since I only had to wait for exactly 2 weeks. For those who don't know what I'm talking about, check out their official site at www.xtreamer.net or the following promo video (by the way... the song is called Recurring by Bonobo).
The Xtreamer - even before it landed in our hands it already is a phenomenon. Either you love it or you hate it. Studying the official forums for weeks I come to this conclusion. The product was promoted months ago but Xtreamer.net didn't send any samples to reviewers yet. So there were a lot of speculations and rumors: is the Xtreamer vaporware? Is everything a big fraud? At first I decided to wait for the first reviews to pop up but in the end I couldn't resist and had to preorder one unit. I am sooo addicted to technical gadgets. I never did anything like that before, I swear.
Well, the day the first batch would commence shipping (July 1st, 2009) came closer and more videos about the Xtreamer were published. Raw footage from the promotional video, an unboxing video from Mark Appel, Director of Mvix Benelux. But there they were again, the doubters: is it also fake? Is that the real Mark Appell... I think some people might seriously doubt that life really exists as we know it, but instead we are all living in a Matrix :)
Nevertheless, July 1st was finally there, Xtreamers were promised to be shipped from the Netherlands to avoid customs in EU but IIRC due to bad timing (or whatever it was) the units were shipped directly from Unicorn, Korea with TNT. Ok for me, I already ordered quite often from Asia and never had to pay more than stated in the online shops. People started getting tracking numbers and of course, the tracking numbers didn't work immediately and in some cases the tracking status displayed already delivered parcels :) and yeah, time for the doubters!
Next problem, as if there weren't already enough, was that parcels were held back by customs and shipment papers were lost, so they had to be requested from Xtreamer again - sounds like an endless story.
BUT! Xtreamer promised that every single case in which customers have to pay extra money will be taken care of by them.
