Internet Services

YouTube

The YouTube client offers some common options for YouTube. Of course it cannot be compared to the experience when using YouTube within a browser. However, it offers enough functionality to watch some videos if you are too lazy to boot your PC.

Check out the following video. Note that while watching my favorite female Asian artist Jane Zhang singing, I set the playback speed to 1.5x and 2x :) wow she's so cute even in double speed! Btw... I held the Harmony close to the camcorder so you will hear when I press the buttons on my Logitech Harmony and how the Xtreamer reacts to that. FW v1.0.2 also introduced two new speeds: 1.1x and 1.2x!

The video was recorded using firmware v1.0.1. The following functions are implemented as of firmware v1.0.2:

  • Search video
  • Recently Added
  • Recently Featured
  • Top Favorites
  • Top Rated
  • Most viewed

I could not find a setting yet to have it stream the videos in HQ or even HD. At this stage, the YouTube feature is not very useful for me yet. I still prefer to watch YouTube videos on the PC.

News, Movie Trailers, Weather, etc.

Besides YouTube, Xtreamer offers you a vast number of other internet services and the list is going to grow bigger and bigger. Furthermore there will also be a RSS SDK so you can add your own RSS news to the Xtreamer. As for the list of all offered services this is just going to go beyond the scope of this single page but just to name a few video and RSS feeds:

  • BBC
  • CNN
  • abc
  • Reuters
  • FOX
  • Yahoo!
  • Apple trailers
  • Picasa
  • Flickr
  • engadget
  • National Geographic
  • Animal Planet
  • The History Channel
  • Discovery Channel
  • Cartoon Network
  • Nickelodeon
  • ESPN
  • UFC
  • Guiness World Records TV
  • Weather
  • Stock

... and this is just a few(!) of them. To get a picture - yeah, with pictures - visit this thread by the Xtreamer forum admin, it's impressive:
