XSC
I am sure that another modification will be very popular and widely used soon. The reasons are simple: while the Scythe mod actively cools your Xtreamer, it requires to have the left side of the unit open for the airflow. The fan does not come with a finger protection coz it was meant to be used inside a computer case and you have to be more careful if you want to use the Xtreamer as a portable device. Last but not least, some guys are just allergic to fans...
This is where the XSC (Xtreamer Side Cooler) comes into play. It was created by Xtreamer's official partner in the UK, Tranquil PC - world leader in the field of low energy IT systems. The XSC looks as if it was made for the Xtreamer... of course... it was exclusively designed for the Xtreamer! It will replace the original (aluminium) heatsink including the left sidecover of your Xtreamer. This way, the heat of the Realtek chip may be delivered directly to the outside. The cooler comes with thermal paste and detailed instructions and most important: if you follow the instructions carefully you will NOT void your warranty!
Here is the official video created by them showing you how to fit the XSC cooler.
This looks very easy but you still have to be careful. Most important thing to say is - as also mentioned in the video: READ the instructions BEFORE starting. If you have no internal HDD inside the Xtreamer, there shouldn't be any concerns about the missing airflow inside so you can turn off the fan without any worries.
The XSC is already shipping and there are enough in stock, so if you want to get yourself a unit, you can purchase it at the official shop at http://thextreamer.com/shop.html where you can get it as a standalone accessoire or bundled with the Xtreamer. In the future they are also planning an additional interesting bundle: Xtreamer with XSC but without the WiFi antenna, maintaining the competitive price of £99.
