Hands On
So what can you do with the e-TRAYz besides using it as it is?
On the software side you could install any web application which runs on a simple Apache/PHP/MySQL installation, like Joomla, Drupal, phpBB3 etc... but even better... TheHijacker (no, this is not Hi-Jack from MPC) has created a masterpiece for the e-TRAYz: his PHP Installer can be the starting point to make your e-TRAYz do what you wanted it to do when you ordered it to find out later at home that it doesn't perfectly do all the things that were announced in the advertisements (yet!). Just to name some among a huge number of packages TheHijacker made for his installer:
- aMule
ed2k network client - Deluge
torrent client written in python - DownloadDaemon
download-manager with one-click-hoster support - Folder Gallery
photo folder gallery - Hamachi
secure VPN connection to your eTrayz - IPKG
optware package management system - MiniDLNA
UPnP/DLNA server - nzbget with nzbgetter
usenet client with NZB RSS fetcher - OpenVPN
turns your eTrayz into VPN server - pyLoad
downloader for 1-click-hosting sites - SABnzb
usenet client written in python - Squeezeboxserver
streaming audio server - Transmission
advanced torrent client - Webmin
web-based interface for etrayz administration - ...
Sorry, if I wrote "some" but I just couldn't decide which packages to mention and which not. Rest assured, the list is much longer than that :)
On the hardware side you could replace the fan if you don't like its noise level. Actually it's not the fan which is annoying: the noise of the airflow it generates can be heard while watching a movie at night having the e-TRAYz sitting a few meters away from you. BUT... there is a trick to reduce the RPM of the fan from ~4300 to ~2800 which makes the noise very bearable even for a silent movie.
If the LEDs are too bright for you, use a simple trick: remove the front panel and cover the LEDs with a strip of folded white printer paper. See the result here.
